The short version. Inkwiz checks the text box you are typing in. That text goes only to the checking engine you choose, to get suggestions back. We (Wakeup Monster) never receive it, store it, sell it or use it for ads. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking in the extension.
Who we are
Inkwiz is a Chrome extension made by Wakeup Monster (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Inkwiz extension and this website, inkwiz.wakeupmonster.com. Questions: support@wakeupmonster.com.
Nothing happens until you agree
When you install Inkwiz, it opens a welcome screen that explains what it reads, where your text is sent and what it keeps. Inkwiz reads and sends nothing until you press Agree and start checking. If you choose Not now, it stays off.
You can withdraw your consent at any time: open Inkwiz’s Options page, go to Privacy and choose Review or withdraw your consent. Inkwiz stops checking straight away.
The text you write
When you pause typing in a text box, Inkwiz reads the text in that box only and sends it to the engine you picked so it can return suggestions. It does not read other parts of the page, and it does not send anything per keystroke.
- Password, payment and one-time-code fields, search boxes and code editors are never read or checked, nor are fields a website marks as “don’t check”.
- Very short text (under about 2 characters) is never sent.
- You can turn Inkwiz off for any website, or switch it off entirely, from the toolbar.
Where your text goes depends on the engine:
| Engine | Where the text is sent | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| LanguageTool (default) | LanguageTool’s servers (api.languagetool.org), over HTTPS. | Free |
| Gemini Nano | Checked by Chrome’s built-in AI on your computer. To catch more, Inkwiz also sends the same text to LanguageTool at the same time and merges the results. | Free |
| Claude | Anthropic (api.anthropic.com), using your own API key. | Billed to your Anthropic account |
| OpenAI | OpenAI (api.openai.com), using your own API key. | Billed to your OpenAI account |
Rewrite sends only the sentence or selection you ask to rewrite to the AI provider whose key you saved (Anthropic or OpenAI).
These services process your text under their own privacy policies: LanguageTool, Google, Anthropic and OpenAI. If you add your own API key, your use of that provider is also covered by your agreement with them.
What is stored, and where
Everything Inkwiz saves stays in Chrome’s storage on your side. Nothing is stored on our servers.
- Settings (on/off, language, engine, sites you turned off) are saved in Chrome sync storage, so they follow your Chrome profile if you use Chrome sync.
- Your personal dictionary, API keys, the position of on-page controls, your consent choice and its date are saved in Chrome’s local storage on this computer only. API keys are never synced.
- API keys are encrypted before they are saved (AES-GCM, 256-bit). The encryption key is created on your computer and cannot be exported.
- If you report a suggestion as wrong, Inkwiz saves only the rule name and your reason on this computer. It does not save your text or the website, and it does not send the report anywhere.
- Recent check results are kept in memory for speed and are cleared when Chrome closes.
- Your API key is sent only to the provider it belongs to (Anthropic or OpenAI), to make the request you asked for.
Uninstalling Inkwiz removes this data from your browser.
What we do not do
- No accounts, sign-ups or email collection in the extension.
- No analytics, tracking pixels or advertising in the extension.
- We never sell your data or use it to build profiles, and we do not use your text to train models.
- We do not transfer your data to third parties except the checking service you chose, as described above.
The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Why Inkwiz asks for its permissions
- Read and change data on websites: to find the text box you are typing in, underline mistakes and apply the fix you accept.
- Storage: to save your settings, dictionary and keys, as described above.
- Scripting: to start Inkwiz in tabs that were already open when you installed or updated it.
This website
This site has no cookies, analytics or ad trackers, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. Like most web hosts, our host (Hostinger) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and troubleshooting.
When you uninstall Inkwiz, Chrome opens our goodbye page. Its address includes the Inkwiz version number, so we can tell which version you were using. If you send us feedback from that page, it arrives as a normal email.
If you email us
If you write to support, we use your email and message only to reply and to fix the problem, and we delete them when they are no longer needed.
Children
Inkwiz is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Inkwiz handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change ships. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the extension’s release notes.
