How can we help?

Quick answers for Inkwiz, and a real person at the other end of the email.

Getting started

  1. Add Inkwiz from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. A welcome screen opens. Read what Inkwiz reads and where your text goes, then press Agree and start checking. Inkwiz stays off until you do.
  3. Pin it: click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar, then the pin next to Inkwiz.
  4. Click into any text box, like Gmail, chat apps, docs, forms or AI prompts, and type. Inkwiz checks about a second after you pause.

Tabs that were already open before you installed Inkwiz may need a refresh before underlines appear.

Everyday use

Reading the underlines

  • Coral: correctness, meaning spelling, grammar, punctuation.
  • Lilac: clarity, meaning wordy or unclear phrasing.
  • Sea green: engagement, meaning repeated or overused words.
  • Honey: delivery, meaning tone and informal wording.

Fixing a mistake

Hover or click an underline and click the suggestion to apply it. With the card open, Tab or Enter applies it and Esc closes it. The badge on the right of the box shows how many issues are left, and turns into Inky’s smile when everything is clear.

Your dictionary

Click Add to dictionary on a spelling card so a name or word is never flagged again. You can edit the list in Inkwiz’s Options page.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see any underlines

  • Open the Inkwiz popup from the toolbar. If it says Finish setup, press it and agree on the welcome screen. Inkwiz checks nothing until you do.
  • Check that Inkwiz is switched on, and not turned off for this site.
  • Refresh the page if it was open before you installed or updated Inkwiz.
  • Password fields are never checked, and text under 2 characters is skipped.

It says “slowing down”

LanguageTool’s free service limits how many checks can be made per minute. Inkwiz waits and tries again automatically, so give it a few seconds. If you write a lot, Claude or OpenAI with your own key has no such wait.

A small “i” badge appears

The current engine can’t check the language you are writing in. Pick another engine, or change the language in the popup. Claude and OpenAI cover all 50+ languages.

Gemini Nano isn’t available

Nano needs Chrome 138 or newer, a computer that meets Chrome’s requirements for built-in AI, and a one-time model download. Until it’s ready, Inkwiz uses LanguageTool and tells you why.

A suggestion is wrong

Click Dismiss on the card. If it keeps happening, email us the sentence and the suggestion so we can improve it.

Engines and API keys

  • LanguageTool: free and on by default. Nothing to set up.
  • Gemini Nano: free, runs in Chrome on your computer, with LanguageTool alongside it.
  • Claude and OpenAI: the sharpest suggestions and full Hinglish checking, using your own API key.

To add a key: open Inkwiz’s Options page (right-click the toolbar icon → Options), go to API keys, paste your key and press Test key. Keys are saved only on your computer, encrypted, and sent only to their own provider. Usage is billed by Anthropic or OpenAI, not by us. See the privacy policy for where text goes with each engine.

Languages

LanguageTool checks about 30 languages for free, including English variants, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Persian and Tamil. With Claude or OpenAI, Inkwiz checks all 50+ languages in the menu, including Hindi, Hinglish, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Korean, Turkish, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Choose Auto-detect or a specific language in the popup.

Turn off or remove

  • One site: open the popup on that site and turn it off for the site.
  • Everywhere: use the main switch in the popup.
  • Uninstall: go to chrome://extensions, find Inkwiz and click Remove. This also deletes its settings, dictionary and saved keys from your browser.
